Summer Fun!

It seems like every time I post I end up leaving out a bunch of information that I meant to include--must be my 'mommy brain'! So this post might be a melting pot of stuff....

I forgot to post about Andy's first Father's Day. We didn't make any special plans, but it was special. We spent the day in Palmdale/Lancaster shopping and running errands. After that we had a Texas dinner (tamales, rice and beans!) with some Texas friends that are moving to Maryland in a few weeks. Oddly enough, the husband is the one that recruited Andy from A&M. He graduated from A&M as well and moved out here with his wife 5 years ago. They had planned on staying here, possibly finishing their careers here, but recently decided to move back east to be closer to family. We enjoyed spending time with their family on Andy's first special day celebrating fatherhood!

We also celebrated our third anniversary on June 17th. I made reservations at a cute little restaurant here in town and we decided to go out on our own for the first time since Aiden was born. A lady I taught with had been begging to babysit, so we took her up on the offer. We were gone for less than two hours, but it was so nice to see Aiden when we picked him up! I didn't call to check in during dinner, but I did check my phone once just to make sure she hadn't called. Aiden did great and they had a lot of fun with him!
We had talked about what to get each other for our anniversary, since we hadn't done big gifts for each other recently (are we an old married couple or what?!). We decided that we would actually buy each other nice gifts this year; Andy surprised me with a nice, big jewelry box that he said he would work on filling over the years :) and I surprised him with a nice telescope that he had been wanting for awhile.

Last week Andy celebrated his birthday. We went to lunch with his friends and we made a delicious dinner at home, but didn't do much else. Poor guy! We actually hosted a surprise birthday party for one of my good friends last week. Her husband asked if we would host it, so at least someone got a birthday celebration! Here is a picture of some of my best girlfriends and their little ones at the party.

Now for the fun part that you're all here to read about....Aiden! I forgot to post what he weighed when we took him to the doctor at the end of June. He weighed in at 12 lbs. 15 oz. and was 23.5 inches long. He is growing so fast and is already in 6-9 month clothes because he is too long for everything. And some of those are already getting too small! The doctor also did a quick blood sample to check his iron since most preemies have anemia due to the fact that iron is received by the baby in the last couple of months in utero. His hemoglobin was at 14.3, which she said was higher than hers and higher than any baby at his age that she had ever seen!
He has been surprising us everyday with new milestones. His grabbing skills have come a long way just in the past few days. He can grab an object and shake it now!

Recently he has also started looking at us from across the room and following us with his eyes. His eyesight has improved greatly and he always smiles when he sees or hears us. That is the greatest feeling! And now, not only is he smiling, but he is also letting out giggles, coos and all sorts of new sounds!
We have started a routine with him at bedtime that he enjoys. Every few days we bathe him, which he loves, and then every night I massage him, put his pajamas on, read a story, eat, and then we put him to bed shortly after he is done eating. I think it has helped him sleep better. For awhile he was sleeping through the night, but the past week or two he has been waking up around 3 AM to eat and then again around 6. He usually goes to bed around 8 PM, so he is going a good 7 hours without eating. His doctor was surprised that he was already going that long. Hopefully we can get him to sleep through the 3:00 feeding soon!
Since we never had a chance to get the nursery ready, we are slowly doing little things here and there. We finally made his curtains this weekend and got them hung. The only thing left to do is hang the shelves that we bought several months ago. Yes, I said months...hey, we've been busy!

We also celebrated Aiden's first 4th of July with friends, complete with fireworks! He didn't care too much for the sounds, but enjoyed the pretty colors from afar.

Aiden also had his first swimming experience this weekend. We bought a cheap pool for the back patio since it's been so hot here. He liked the pool and looked adorable in his swimsuit and sunglasses!

Here is our new July album, but we also added more pictures to our June album, so make sure to check it out!
