Grandma Mandry visits!

Last week my mom came to visit and help out around the house and with Aiden since I couldn't get anything done by myself! Here's why: Aiden had been doing really well with his feedings until a couple days before my mom got here. We decided to take him off the medicine that they had him on for his reflux (Reglan) because we read about all of the nasty side effects and decided that we would try to deal with the reflux on our own. After the medicine was out of his system, he of course started spitting up a lot after feedings, so we did our research and learned the following: feed him less amounts more often, burp often, hold him upright for at least 30 minutes after eating, and change my diet to exclude all foods that make reflux worse for him. This meant that I was basically constantly feeding him because he was now eating every hour and a half to two hours. By the time he was done breastfeeding, burping, and held upright for 30 minutes after his feeding, it was time to go again. And I'm not exaggerating at all! Unfortunately I had to cut down on some of my favorite foods: milk, peppers, OJ, berries, and much more. We also learned that we shouldn't move him around much at all after feedings, which is a lot harder than we thought. Every time we would pick him up to burp or reposition him, up came what seemed like everything he had just eaten. But all of this was worth it to make Aiden feel better. We were still worried that he wasn't getting enough to eat because he was CONSTANTLY hungry, so the doctor told us to have him weighed after a few days to make sure that he was gaining enough weight/getting enough to eat. We had him weighed on Monday, April 27 and he was 9 pounds 3 ounces--just right!

It was so helpful to have my mom here. She helped me clean the house, do some gardening and watch Aiden. I don't know what I would have done without her help! It is so hard to admit that you don't have time or energy to do anything around the house, and my mom just took over and worked like a horse! It was really hard for her to leave, but she, my dad and my brother will be coming for a visit in June to meet the little guy--we are so excited!
