Springtime fun!

I know it's been awhile since I updated the blog; sorry! The only time I am at the computer is sometimes while I feed Aiden, so I have to type with one hand (yes, this is what I'm doing right now!) and it takes forever, so I avoid it!

Since the last post, several exciting things have happened. First, we celebrated our first Mother's Day together! Nothing fancy; just hanging around like any other Sunday, but it was the idea that was special! Andy and Aiden got me a nice digital picture frame, which I have been wanting for awhile. It is nice to sit and feed Aiden while looking back at our favorite old pictures. I was, however, torn between putting pictures on there from Aiden's time in the hospital or not. Of course I wanted pictures of our beautiful boy from the day he was born up until now, but I also kind of wanted to forget that part of this whole experience and somehow put it behind us. I'm not going to lie, though; I still struggle with wanting to see how far he has come, but at the same time I don't want to be reminded that our now perfectly healthy baby used to have wires coming off of all different parts of his body--so many that we were sometimes afraid to hold him. I must remind myself that we shouldn't try to forget the experience, but use it to remind ourselves of how far he has come and just how blessed we are. Compared to most babies who spend time in the NICU, Aiden was 'at the top of his class,' so we must be thankful that he is healthy!

Here are some pictures from Mother's Day:
This is our attempt at our first family portrait since the day we brought him home from the hospital (we HAVE to try to do this more often!). We are in Aiden's room, which is still a work in progress since we didn't get to paint/decorate before he arrived!

The next exciting thing that has happened recently was that Aiden's Aunt Alison and Uncle Ben came to visit. We are so excited that they got to meet Aiden and spend some time with him! We took a day trip to some of the big sequoias near us. These are apparently nothing compared to the trees further north, but we had a lot of fun and thought the trees were pretty impressive!

Here are Andy and Ben putting Andy's early Father's Day grill together. Heaven forbid they attempt this without throwing back a few beers. And they're both Aggies, so maybe those two factors are what caused this project to take so long. We'll never know....

Finally, the last 'big' exciting thing that has happened recently (okay, so everyday is exciting with Aiden!) is that Aiden has started to smile at us a lot in the past week! He also smiles at his friends (his toys) while he swings or plays. It is so cute, and I tried to capture some moments on film, but I didn't get the cutest smiles. I'll keep trying!

In general, the last few weeks have been good. His reflux can be so bad some days that he spits up everything he eats, and other days are much better; so much so that we get our hopes up thinking he is finally outgrowing this. But everyday is a treat with him! He is getting so strong now: holding his head like a pro, standing on our laps, pushing his chest off the ground, scooting forward during tummy time, and even rolling over again! This week he has also discovered that his hands are a yummy treat when he's hungry! He still has his blonde hair, but it has actually started to get a golden-orangey tint to it, so we will see how this develops! After all, Aiden means 'little fire,' so ever since we chose his name I said that he would have red hair, be a fiery handful, or be a pyromaniac (yes, it runs on both sides of the family--Andy and my dad both have this fascination with burning things...). Hopefully he doesn't end up with all three traits. Oh dear.
A couple more pictures of our adorable munchkin!
